Talk

Since our talk last year (‘Adaptive design, does size matter?’), responsive web design has really taken off with many seeing the benefits of responsive design.
However, responsive design is now changing how many teams approach their projects questioning if they really need to produce endless wireframes or fully designed comps for every breakpoint of their responsive website or application.
We’ll be delving head-first into approaching user experience (UX) planning and design when it comes to responsive projects, with first-hand experiences and hopefully some really helpful tips along the way, which you can apply to your projects.

Questions Answered:
• What is responsive design?
• How is responsive changing how we work?
• Should you take a mobile first approach? What about content first? What comes first?
• Are wireframes and comps dead?
• How can you make your UX design process smarter and more flexible to responsive design?

Speaker Bio: Matt oversees all UX and design produced at Cyber-Duck, a leading digital agency, Matt is passionate about making things better and more delightful to use and speaks at leading events and conferences.

With the introduction and growing popularity of off-the-shelf css responsive frameworks such as Twitter Bootstrap, you could be thinking that this is the perfect solution for creating a beautiful responsive website. Wrong! Most of the time, they are bloated and inflexible to different grid systems.
In this workshop we discuss the pros and cons of off-the-shelf css frameworks and why creating a flexible and truly responsive solution could fit your needs better – we’ll even show you how! We will also explore the accessibility features of responsive further.

Questions Answered:
•Why off-the-shelf css frameworks are not the best option?
•What alternatives are there?
•How to create a simple yet flexible framework with css / sass?
•How to make a responsive website more accessible?

Speaker Bio: Ramon is a self-trained web designer and front-end developer since 2002. I design and code good looking websites and have spoken about responsive web design at a number of events including Digital Pond.
