“From nowhere to major player” ABI Research.
Navfree in 2010 looked at the navigation industry with a fresh view, and attempted to eliminate the one major cost that still exists today: maps. This lead to a partnership with Open Street Maps, which enables Navmii to offer high quality navigation for free, based on banner ad revenues and in-app purchases. Today, Navfree has 12.1 million users and is growing faster than TomTom and Garmin combined on mobile with over 650,000 new users a month. Navfree is now pushing to disrupt new industries such as insurance and in-car navigation.

Questions answered :
Is Open Street Maps good enough globally to support high quality navigation?
In emerging countries, local partners are they good enough?
Is Google navigation a deterrent?
The current model is based on standard banner ads, where is future revenue heading?
What are the new opportunities for Navfree? Navigation is a platform on which many new opportunities can be built.

Speaker Bio: I have worked as part of the Navmii core team for the last 18 months and helped develop our navigation and broadcast apps strategy. Navfree is currently one of the world's fastest growing mobile GPS apps with 12.1 million users and grows by 700k of new users a month. We are now moving into new markets such as in-car and insurance. We are looking at map, sensor, and camera data and how this can disrupt industries.
